Take the KEY Pledge this Holiday Season

We are officially in the countdown till the holidays! This is my favorite time of year. I love the decorations and the parties and the baking and the warm, cozy fashions! I always look forward to this time of year because it’s always so much about family and friends… and I love that.

KEY PLEDGE

We host many gatherings throughout the holidays at our house. With 5 kids, we’ve become the gathering central hub. We host a school holiday party. We host a cookie swap with some of our close friends. We host a swim team holiday party. And we host Christmas Day with my whole family. As you can imagine, there are always tons of people in my house throughout the holiday time. Since many kids and babies are on our guest lists, I always make sure to take into consideration home safety. I want to make sure my home is a safe place for everyone. I don’t want any dangers lurking for anyone to get into, it’s something that I’m very aware of throughout the year, but especially when I’m hosting a gathering.

I have been honored to have partnered with the American Cleaning Institute (ACI) throughout this last year on an important laundry safety campaign called the KEY Pledge. ACI recently conducted a study and found that 86% of caregivers are improperly storing their laundry packets. To me, this percentage was alarming and with so much coming up in our house over the next 6 weeks, I’m happy to be able to spread this message because it’s so very top of mind for me right now. And I’m hoping to be able to make this message top of mind for other moms and dads during this holiday time in which many people are hosting gathering, events and parties at their homes, too.

The ACI is asking parents and caregivers to take a pledge online to be the KEY to a safe laundry room and routine at keypledge.com.

My washing machine and dryer are in a very high traffic area. As soon as you enter my side door, which has become our main entrance point, you’re square in front of them. For me, having my washing machine and dryer on the first floor has always been wonderful because I don’t have to lug my laundry baskets to the basement (where mine was when I was a child).   It’s been very helpful to have it on my main floor, but it’s also in a main area. So for me, especially with 5 young kids, taking the KEY Pledge was something that was extra important for me.

What is the KEY Pledge?

K – Keep single-load liquid laundry packets out of the reach and sight of children at all times
E – Educate your family and friends about the safe use and storage of these new laundry products. Safety takes us all!
Y – You serve a key role in laundry safety

Detergent wise, I only use liquid laundry packets, so I’m very much on high alert as to storing them high and completely out of sight from my children and any friends that they may have over. Especially with having so many kids in my house for the holidays, I don’t want anyone to be able to see, feel or touch a thing. Having the cabinets to store everything in above my machines has been wonderful, safe and effective. As we all know, when something is out of sight, it’s out of mind.

Please make sure you take these steps and pass along to any parents and caregivers you know.

We’re all in this together and spreading the word and awareness is the best thing we can do!
