10 Facts about Pokemon Cards for Parents
Last summer for my sons and their friends, it was ALL about making Rainbow Loom bracelets. Everyone had a loom. Everyone had elastics. Everyone had about 20 bracelets on each wrist. This summer, it’s all about Pokemon Cards. I remember Pokemon Cards from my childhood, but I never got into playing the actual card game and trading cards with friends. My sons on the other hand, it’s all they want to do. As a matter of fact, Pokemon Cards have become my best friend this summer because I can pretty much get my sons to do anything with the promise of “buying new Pokemon cards.”

I’ve been doing a little research and I’ve been having my sons William and Alexander teach me what they know. I’ve compiled a list of 10 facts. Now believe me, you won’t be an expert after reading the facts, but you will know a little but more about these cards that you’re investing in for your kids. Also, as you start understanding more and more… you might even want to get in on one of the battles!
10 Facts about Pokemon Cards for Parents
1) If you look on the bottom right hand of the card, it gives the character’s story.
2) In the top left corner, if your Pokemon card is evolved – it will tell you what it evolved from.
3) There are all different kinds of elements – grass, dragon-type, fairy-type, metal, darkness, fighting, psychic, electric, water, fire, colorless, etc.
4) “Energy Cards” are for power for your attacks.
5) “Trainer Cards” are for making special moves.
6) You can trade cards by having 2 different people and you each have a card you want to trade. It’s a simple game of “Do you want to trade this card for this card?”
7) Each Pokemon card has a name, a type, and an amount of Health Points (top right hand corner).
8) The higher the number of Health Points, the better.
9) There are 6 Generations Sets, which means there are a ton of cards!
10) Skills you must have to play this game – know how to play cards, know basic math and know how to read.
