Six Fun First Trimester Memories

Six Fun First Trimester Memories

A few months ago, while my Mom was cleaning out some old boxes, she found the journal she kept while she was pregnant with me. It was so fun and interesting to read what she was thinking and feeling while I was growing inside of her.

I am the youngest of my parents’ four children; my older siblings are my brothers, Keith and Adam, and my sister, Audrey. One of my favorite entries from my Mom’s pregnancy journal was when she reported what my brothers were hoping for in their new sibling. Eight-year-old Keith, she wrote, wanted a girl so that the family would be even with three boys and three girls. Adam, who was six years old, wanted a another brother because “sisters pinch.” I read these entries and made a mental note to keep my own journal if and when I ever got pregnant.

Of course, a short while later I did become pregnant! I’m now 14.5 weeks along, and I just realized that I haven’t really journaled my pregnancy yet, except for a few blog posts and some messages on pregnancy forums.

The truth is, I was a bit scared during the first trimester. I was afraid something would go wrong, and even though I didn’t have any bleeding or cramping, any sign of an ache or pain sent me into panic mode. I know, and I knew, that it’s important for the health of the baby not to stress myself out, but sometimes I just couldn’t help it.

Thinking back to the first 12 weeks of my pregnancy (7 of which I knew I was pregnant), I have some fun memories that I wanted to be sure to write down so maybe in 32 years my baby can enjoy them, just as I recently enjoyed reading about my Mom’s pregnancy journey with me.

Baby G at 6 weeks. (I had an early ultrasound to measure exactly how far along I was.)

Here are the top 6 memories from my first trimester that make me smile:

1) Hearing and seeing the excitement my family and Brian’s family had upon getting the news that I was pregnant.

2) Seeing Baby G and listening to his or her heartbeat for the first time – totally amazing to have proof that a little baby was living inside of me!

3) Overhearing some of my nephews argue over who was the first to find out I was having a baby.

4) My two oldest nieces squealing with delight when I showed them my 8-week ultrasound photos on the 4th of July.

5) Listening to my nieces and nephews’ predictions about whether I’m having a girl or a boy. Also, my 5-year-old nephew Henry always asking me to “Say hi to the baby for me.” 🙂

6) Meeting my niece Victoria for the first time, knowing that in a few months she will have a little cousin playmate.

I’m going to be more consistent with my pregnancy journaling now. I want to remember everything about these 9 months because they’re already flying by!
