Tansy the Snuggle Monster

Growing up, our two dogs Cracker and Carmel were not allowed to sleep in our beds, per my parents’ rules. They could sleep in our rooms, on the rugs… but not on the beds, getting everything dirty and full of dog hair. I always longed to have a dog curled up next to me, snuggling in bed, so as a little girl I vowed to allow dogs in my bed when I grew up and had my own place.

When I got Ryder as a 7-week-old puppy in 2002, I had her sleep in bed with me. She always wanted to sleep at the bottom of the bed next to my legs, often with her head on my feet. To this day she still does that, though sometimes she prefers the big comfy dog pillow on the floor next to the bed.

Jethro isn’t really a big bed-time snuggler. He likes to sleep next to me when I’m sitting on the couch and get his belly rubbed, and sometimes on weekend mornings when I sleep in he’ll come snuggle at my legs, but he really doesn’t like to fall asleep in bed with me and Brian. (He does, however, like to sleep on the bed when we’re not in it, so I guess he just likes it when he has more room to himself.)

And then there’s Tansy. She is what Brian and I call the Snuggle Monster. As the smallest of our 3 dogs (though at 68 lbs., she is not “small”), she will contort her body into any position for the best snuggle. And she LOVES snuggling in bed. Since she loves our bed so much, I always put a sheet over our comforter so she’s not getting dog hair and dirty paws on the sheets and pillowcases on which Brian and I sleep. But that doesn’t really work for Tansy. She is more interested in the comfort of the soft and fluffy pillows than anything else.

So though I cover the bed with a sheet for her…

I can always count on finding Tansy in the place where she’s most comfortable…

Yes, right on the pillows, and not even touching the sheet.

But instead of making her move, I just change the pillowcases every night. She’s our Snuggle Monster, and I wouldn’t have it any other way.

Tell me, am I the only person who goes out of the way to accommodate the dogs of the house?

I’m a cat mama myself but before my allergies got really bad, my cats had the run of everything – my house, my bed, all but the kitchen/food surfaces. My remaining cat used to sleep on my pillow next to my head 😉

People think I’m crazy because all I do is go out of my way for my dog! haha We have a chair next to our bed that my husband likes to sit in while on his laptop, but Riley will just stand on the bed, staring at him until he gets up so he can lay there! And then I ask my husband to move! lol He also sleeps between us or next to me, and I love it. He’s a Lhasa Poo, so he’s not as big as your pups, but he sprawls out and snores like the best of ’em. I love that you I found someone who feels the same way as me! 😉

Ha! I love this! Nope you are not alone girl! My hubby is always saying how I give the animals all the attention. Our bed is way to high for our dog to get on so he sleeps on his dog bed right beside my bed. But, you can find him snuggled next to me on the couch all the time! My parents think i’m crazy for letting the dog on the couch, but my house my rules now! 🙂

Guilty here. Though my husband firmly adheres to the no dogs in bed rule, I have laid out blankets in 2 spots in our bedroom just so Orion has his choice of sleeping locations.

I don’t have any pets but I know my sister does the same with her dog. It is so cute though! That is one big dog:)

Before I had kids and my Lambchop passed away, I would do anything for my pups! Rex is a great dog and still sleeps with us, but I’m not quite as accommodating 🙂

Well, Janie… although Dad and I did not allow Cracker and Carmel on our beds, we seem to have changed all the rules for our GRANDdogs! Yes? When you and Brian are away, we often have ALL 3 doggies in bed with us! And I LOVE it! xoxox!

Our grand kids and grand dogs all get to operate under different rules than you and your sibs and Cracker and Carmel…..haha. Sorry about that!

I’m a cat mommy, but it makes me SO SAD that she doesn’t snuggle with us at night anymore!! We shut her out of our bedroom when Benjamin was born when he was sleeping in our room, and I think she just got used to not sleeping with us. It’s been almost 2 years, and I think she has slept with us once since then. I totally want my snuggle monster kitty back, so I know how you feel!!

There is nothing better than feeling doggy fur in the middle of the night.
I have thought my dog to stay on her large beach towel that is on top of my comforter, which I wash once a week together with her dog bed and fuzzy toys.
