Sarah Hammer Accepts American Flag from P&G and Tide

This past spring, I had a wonderful chance to work with Tide on their My Story, Our Flag.

My Story, Our Flag was all about encouraging Americans to share their red, white and blue stories. What does red, white and blue mean to you? It’s different and unique for everyone, and I thought it was just a beautiful way to get everything excited for the upcoming Games!

As a loyal user of Tide products, I was honored to be on this campaign because I loved seeing what Tide was doing and how they were sharing the experiences and feelings of Americans as to the importance of red, white and blue. The stories that were shared were genuine, special, extraordinary and personal.

I shared how red, white and blue means Dimitri Gavriel to me. My husband’s best friend from college, who was killed in action while defending our country in Fallujah in 2004. We named our 2nd son, Alexander Dimitri because “Dimi” exemplified what it was to be a true American hero. He will always and forever be the red, white and blue for me.

While working with Tide on this, I had the opportunity to chat and interview World Champion Cyclist and U.S. Olympic cyclist and two-time silver medalist, Sarah Hammer. I’m a big fan of Sarah’s, so it was so much fun to grab some of her time and chat away!

Here are a couple of questions I asked her and her answers…

What does red, white and blue mean to you?

It means pride. There’s pride for me to wear the colors, a huge sense of pride. If it’s my USA jacket or my uniform to compete, it’s pride. I’m proud of what the colors stand for and I feel pride for the men and women who fought and fight for the red, white and blue.

What are you feeling as we lead up to the Games? Nerves? Excitement?

I’m feeling excitement! As it gets closer, it’s starting to get bigger and bigger. I have some nerves, but I try to control them. It’s just really just excitement for me to get there and compete.

I made sure I kept updated on Sarah during the Games and I thought it was so unbelievably cool to see Sarah accept from Jodi Allen, VP-North America Operations and Marketing at P&G, an American Flag with stories from Americans on it, and what red, white and blue means to them. This flag was given on behalf of P&G and Tide at the P&G Family Home in London.

Way to go SARAH!!!
